|Audrey’s chocolate shop was opened in 1961 by William Pain, who worked at Fortnum & Mason producing their chocolates in-house. When William retired, he and his wife Clarice opened Audrey’s and started selling their unique chocolates in the lovely seaside town of Hove. Ten years later, David Burns joined Audrey’s and became a Director and Head Chocolatier.|
Mason as well as selling from their shop in Holland Road, Hove. Some things have never changed, the chocolates are still made using the same recipes and the original moulds from when Audrey’s began in the 1960s.
| ||Our chocolate is made using our very own blend, giving a unique flavour that cannot be purchased anywhere else. We make our chocolate in small batches using only the highest quality ingredients sourced from around the world by our Head Chocolatier.|
Our kitchen uses this recipe to make over 40 different centres for our chocolate boxes, as well as our Easter eggs and chocolate bars – over 11 different flavours to choose from and all handmade.
We are famous for our fondant creams such as rose, violet, lime and coconut as well as our chocolate covered ginger and nuts. Our ginger is made using only Australian ginger, which we recook to give a stronger flavour unique to Audrey’s.
| ||You will find our traditional chocolate shop in a four-storey Georgian house in Hove. On the ground floor you can purchase our chocolate, while the other floors house a mix of production rooms and a chocolate kitchen. All our creations begin life in the basement and this is also where most of our moulds are coated in chocolate - including those for our traditional Easter eggs and Christmas gifts.|
Our production rooms are used for packing, hand dipping, starching, and - in our flower room -silver trays are filled with beautiful sugar flowers that are used to decorate eggs and figurines. It’s like going back in time. Next time you are in Hove come and say hello.
